There is a place for everyone in the Chula Vista Junior program. Each child can advance to any level by participating in and fulfilling the necessary requirements to move up from level to level and master the art of sailing while learning healthy and positive habits and having fun.
Sailing is one of, if not the oldest water sport. It develops character and responsibility while allowing a child complete control of his or her own vessel. It teaches sportsmanship and teamwork. The Corinthian spirit, as it is known sailing circles, is the team spirit and the spirit of camaraderie between boaters which makes the sport of sailing a sport of ladies and gentlemen.
Throughout the education of sailing, courtesy, team member respect, responsibility, and leadership are emphasized and encouraged. The older Juniors look after the younger ones, they share their knowledge and support others in their learning efforts.
Our sailing course teaches basic sailing for beginner and intermediate sailors, boating safety, boat maintenance and boat crew skills on larger boats. We have a variety of boats available; Holder Hawks, Lasers, Lidos, Sabots; so boat ownership is not required. Our instructors are well qualified and we will provide adult supervision throughout the program.
The environment in which the children learn and play is a safe one. The Juniors are under supervision and will be taught boating safety and responsibility. Detrimental outside influences are not permitted to penetrate the Chula Vista Yacht Club Junior Program.
